Get to know Kalin McDonald...
Kalin is an avid golfer and member of the Toronto Hunt. He is married with three children and enjoys spending time at the cottage, playing hockey and chasing golf balls. He is the Treasurer of the Scarborough Swim Club, a not-for-profit organization that supports competitive swimmers and their families.
Kalin was promoted to partner in 2000. He obtained his Chartered Accountant designation with BDO LLP in 1996. He has completed the CPA Canada’s In-Depth Tax Course. He is a graduate of the University of Waterloo where he received his Master of Accounting and Bachelor of Arts degrees. Kalin’s thesis for his Master’s degree was A Canadian Perspective on Ownership and Management Succession of the Family Business.
Kalin’s clients are mid-sized, successful, privately owned enterprises. Kalin works with business owners and their management teams to improve cash flow, increase net worth, and minimize tax liabilities. He engages his clients by actively listening, gently guiding and consistently simplifying issues and opportunities to allow the business owner to make excellent decisions.
Kalin and his Firm are committed to community building. Kalin was appointed to the board of the Credit Valley Hospital Foundation in 2008 where he served as a board member, sat on the finance committee, chaired the audit committee and also held the title of Treasurer. Kalin’s relationship with the Credit Valley Hospital goes back to 1997 when the Firm began holding annual golf tournaments in benefit of the hospital. Today the Firm is a title sponsor of the Annette Silva Women with Drive Golf Tournament held each June. Annette Silva was a former partner of the Firm who lost her life to breast cancer in September 2011. Kalin stepped down from the board in 2012. Today, Kalin is the Treasurer of the Scarborough Swim Club, a not-for-profit organization that supports 200 pre-competitive and competitive swimmers and their families. Kalin is also an assistant coach with the East York Hockey Association’s Tyke Red Wings.
